Man executed after 18 years on death row

. . . and is described as "deranged."

Without getting into a critical discussion about the Church's teaching on the death penalty (I'll leave that for the comments box), it seems to me that to accept one's punishment manfully is a sign of sanity, not of insanity.

"I owe these people. I killed their daughters. If I could stop the pain, I have to do that. This is my right," he said.

"I don't think there's anything crazy or incompetent about that."

Seems to me he was very much in his right mind and saw his death as the punishment due his sin. I do pray to God that he confessed his sins and was indeed sincerely repentant of them.
